Recycling...curbside pickup
Actually, there are not a lot of curbs in Middleville. Have it at the end of your driveway where it intersects with the public road.
Pickups occur every other week; this was new in 2015. Please refer to the Middleville Recycling Postcard for 2020

What Mumford pick up:
Aluminum
Cardboard, even those pop cases and cereal boxes 'box board'.
Glass: brown, clear, green. No light bulbs, no ceramics, no window glass, no mirrors, please.
Magazines
Paper, office paper, junk mail, anything paper that will dissolve in ambient temperature water.
Plastic
Metal, i.e. 'tin cans'
The recycling pickup contractor is Mumford Sanitation. All curbside is SINGLE SORT. Throw it all together, the new sorting line in Hutchinson segregates it all and sends it on to new lives.

These people get up early; it's good to have it out on the curb the evening before, or by 7 AM day of pickup.

Toxic Waste-Wright County Compost & Recycling Facility
There are a whole bunch of things that you cannot 1) leave at the curb, or 2) put in the regular trash collection receptacles. For a list of those, go to the Wright County website:
http://www.co.wright.mn.us/162/Compost-Recycling-Facility
That's pretty much the whole list of what they take. Follow the instructions posted there online. For nuclear waste, call Tennessee.
The Wright County Compost & Recycling Facility is at 505 County Road 37 Northeast, Buffalo, MN 55313. It is just North and East of Maple Lake on County Road 37 headed towards Buffalo.

Prescription drug surplus recycling
(Surplus prescription medications are a hazard to leave lying about, and it is not appropriate to dispose of them in the regular municipal waste, or the Recycling Facility.
Take the unneeded drugs to the Howard Lake City Hall at 625 8th Avenue. There is a drop point in the lobby. Follow this link for more information:
www.howard-lake.mn.us/index.asp?SEC=4FA246E3-1032-4EFF-8282-47606F1A1E6F&DE=E9BFAD2C-D7A8-437A-8CF0-92BBC79F30D6&Type=B_BASIC
Sharps/needles/lancets are not accepted at the drug drop points; those should be taken to the Wright County Compost & Recycling Facility (see link above). They are classified, as with a bunch of other stuff, as Household Hazardous Waste.
Finally, for other solutions to drug disposal, here is the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's take on it:

Mattresses
...and box springs.
Aaaagh! Mattresses and box springs are...a royal pain in the neck, when the time comes for disposal. One cannot put them out with the regular trash, or with the recycling bin, even though that is exactly what has to be done with said used bedding: recycle. To date, Wright County have not addressed their governmental responsibility and taken steps to tend to the recycling of used bedding.
McLeod County to the rescue.
McLeod County have just built a new, state of the art recycling facility at:
1065 Fifth Avenue Southeast, Hutchinson, MN 55350
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM. No appointment is necessary.
There are over 25 people involved in the McLeod County recycling. operating out of a 35,000 square foot purpose-built facility.
The Hutchinson facility is 28.9 miles from the Center of the Known Universe, Middleville Township Hall.
The cost per mattress or box spring is $20.00 each. To translate, if you show up with a twin mattress and a matching box spring, your total cost is $40.00, not twenty. Size does not matter: the California kings are still only $20.00.
The person disposing of the mattress must bring it to the Hutchinson recycling center; McLeod County do not make house calls...especially in Wright County. If you are absolutely incapable of managing such a delivery, call your household waste hauler and ask for their assistance, who will, for an additional fee, pick up your used bedding. There is no free lunch with mattress disposal. Sell a used mattress on craigslist? Good luck with that....
It goes without saying, if you are having a new mattress/whatever delivered, use the same vendor to pick up the used bedding for recycling. Easy. It goes without saying, but we are saying it anyway.

Asbestos
Used extensively in manufacturing of pretty much everything until the 1970s, asbestos is everywhere. Having said that, proper handling and disposal of asbestos from pipes, machinery, construction materials, and many other items, is fairly straighforward. Your first step is to contact the recycling folks at Wright County, 763-682-7338, and they will direct you as to how to proceed.

A Final Note on Batteries
ALL batteries are now recyclable through the Wright County Compost & Recycling Facility. This includes lead-acid, rechargeable, alkaline, NICad, and all other types you probably have never heard of. Here's a quick view of battery recycling from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_recycling
There are also retail drop-off locations all throughout the country that take used batteries. These collection points are the work of Call2Recycle, a nonprofit consortium of battery manufacturers who started in 1996:

The names are familiar: Best Buy, Home Depot, Fastenal, Radio Shack, True Value. Here is a link to Call2Recycle's drop-off locator:

For the recycling of batteries at the Wright County facility or any Call2Recycle location, the service is free.
